* lost Winston...

Well, we really thought Winston (our English Budgie) was on the mend.  He took his antibiotics every day like a trooper and seemed to be eating, etc. But suddenly (like overnight) he seemed to weaken and started listing to one side... and the next morning he was gone.  We couldn't believe it.  I keep talking to him when I walk into the kitchen and then look up at the empty cage... and realize that he's no longer there.

People who don't share their lives with animals don't understand.  I know he was just a bird... but it doesn't matter.  We still miss him.  He was a part of our everyday lives and it hurts to lose him.  When the time comes for us to let Jack go...  it will be hard too.  We know it will happen  (possibly sooner than we expect), and we think we're prepared for it, but it will still be hard.

OK - on to other things:

Son and wife still in Ireland and apparently from text messages, having a grand time.  They said it wasn't cold, but rainy.

It's been cold AND rainy here in Dallas.  We're trying to replace our old fence this week  (to keep out the coyote), but the rain has hindered that some.  Yesterday was pretty, but today is overcast and they say more rain is coming.

Hubby hurt his back in the yard Friday and is on pain killers and muscle relaxants.  Doing better today.

That's about it.  I'm going to quit this and head into the kitchen to make a big pot of African Chicken-Peanut Soup.  It's one of our favorites.  Have a great week and as always, thanks for reading.
